Birth Mother Services

Birth Mother Services

At CFS we have a professional responsibility to you to insure that you get objective and professional counseling. You will work with a qualified and licensed social worker who will help you explore your options of adoption and parenting, and through that process you will choose the best plan for you and your child.

In keeping with Catholic Social Teaching, we serve women of all faiths and respect your religious heritage. We are an agency that will serve you and your child and help you through this difficult time.

We are one of the oldest adoption agencies in Alabama, established in 1928. These many years of experience allow us to bring to you a well established, highly ethical, and Christian based program.

Please realize that you have a choice other than abortion or entering parenthood before you are ready to assume those responsibilities. We realize that this is a very emotional decision. Our workers will help you sort through and deal with your feelings, both before the baby is born and as long as you need to our help thereafter. You may want to consider the possibility of adoption and we can provide you with the information you need to make the final decision.

Important Aspects of Catholic Family Services

  • We were established in 1928 and have a strong foundation in serving women going through a crisis pregnancy.

  • You are our primary client; we work with women of all faiths and races, and have Protestant and Catholic families as adoption resources.

  • Ours is a ministry of caring for you, not for profit

  • We engage in the highest level of ethical practice, offering you objective and professional counseling.

  • We offer you open or confidential adoptions, allowing you to choose the family or have the agency choose one for you.

  • We offer direct placements from the hospital, if all parties are agreeable.

  • We know the adoptive families, and have great confidence in their ability to parent.

  • CFS is state licensed; our social workers all have Master's Degrees and are state licensed.

Services

  • Objective Counseling:

By far, the most important job we have is to provide you with objective, professional, counseling so that you can think through your options of adoption or parenting. This counseling process is done through an individual relationship between you and your social worker.

This relationship will be composed of many qualities including: trust, an agency commitment to your confidentiality and support. We know that this is a difficult and confusing time, and through counseling, you can make the best choice for you and your child.

Our commitment is to you and our support of you is not determined by the choice you make.

  • Community Referrals:

There may be other needs that you have that our agency can't meet. Should that be the case your worker can connect you with other community agencies for assistance.

  • Referrals for Medical Care:

Your prenatal care is vital to you and your child. If you do not have a physician, we can help you find a doctor to provide your prenatal care.

  • Stability as an Agency:

Our agency has been providing this service since 1928. As an established part of the community we are well respected by other community agencies and our current and former clients. This is important for many reasons but primarily because you will have easy access to us over time, unlike out of state agencies, adoption facilitators, attorneys or many for-profit agencies. This is especially important should you choose an adoption plan and you and your adult child desire reunification.
